About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform basic engineering-related tasks under one-on-one guidance from engineers
  • Create construction plans for passenger and transit systems, planning studies, state-of-good-repair projects, and high-speed rail design
  • Assist in preparing trackwork design documents, including alignments, drainage, grading, and estimates
  • Learn environmental mitigation
  • Learn basic transit and high-speed rail design and construction fundamentals
  • Participate in field visits or client meetings
  • Develop CAD drafting skills
  • Assist engineer teams with various tasks and duties
  • Assist engineers with research, development, and project design
  • Assist with preparation of engineering drawings and documents
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent plus current enrollment in an accredited post-secondary engineering program
  • Basic understanding of engineering, geometric, and algebraic principles
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to accept and apply direction from peers and supervisors
  • Understanding of introductory shop drawing and submittal procedures and requirements
  • Ability to perform basic engineering calculations
  • Ability to organize information for use in drawings or other documents
  • Completion of 2 years of post-secondary Civil, Electrical or Mechanical engineering program preferred
  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD, MicroStation, OpenRail, OpenRoads, or Revit preferred
  • Interest in track and/or railroad design preferred
  • Visa sponsorship is not available for this position
