About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform basic engineering-related tasks under one-on-one guidance from engineers
- Create construction plans for passenger and transit systems, planning studies, state-of-good-repair projects, and high-speed rail design
- Assist in preparing trackwork design documents, including alignments, drainage, grading, and estimates
- Learn environmental mitigation and basic transit and high-speed rail design and construction fundamentals
- Participate in field visits or client meetings
- Develop CAD drafting skills
- Assist engineer teams with various tasks and duties
- Assist engineers with research, development, and project design
- Assist with preparation of engineering drawings and documents
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent plus current enrollment in an accredited post-secondary engineering program
- Basic understanding of engineering, geometric, and algebraic principles
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to accept and apply direction from peers and supervisors
- Understanding of introductory shop drawing and submittal procedures and requirements
- Ability to perform basic engineering calculations
- Ability to organize information for use in drawings or other documents
- Visa sponsorship is not available for this position
- Preferred: completion of 2 years of a post-secondary Civil, Electrical or Mechanical engineering program
- Preferred: basic knowledge of AutoCAD, Microstation, OpenRail, OpenRoads, or REVIT
- Preferred: interest in track and/or railroad design
