About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Produce and modify design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans, and specifications for assigned bridge design projects
- Consult with the project manager on research, development, calculations, design, and delivery
- Apply engineering techniques, procedures, and design criteria to complex, cross-discipline projects
- Address design-related issues through problem solving and client interactions
- Develop conceptual and detailed designs and calculations using current drawing and technical tools, programs, and software
- Mentor, train, and review junior engineer staff
- Plan discipline-specific work, distribute work, and lead adherence to schedules and budgets
- Assist with marketing responsibilities, including proposal generation
- Develop scopes of work and levels of effort and manage adherence to scope and budget
- Oversee completeness and accuracy of project team work within the technical discipline
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to team members
- Coordinate technical project aspects with clients and teaming partners
- Lead discipline delivery on larger, multi-disciplinary projects
- Coordinate schedules, hours, and work distribution with other disciplines
- Contribute to successful project delivery for HNTB clients
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 8 years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree in Engineering and 7 years of relevant experience, or PhD in Engineering and 6 years of relevant experience
- Senior-level technical expertise across a broad range of engineering solutions
- Excellent technical knowledge and quality work in multiple discipline projects
- Ability to prioritize tasks and deliver projects on-time, within budget and scope
- Ability to anticipate risks and understand effects of actions
- Understanding of multi-discipline project development and successful project delivery
- Refined technical skills for problem identification, solution development, and decision-making
- Preferred: Master’s degree in Engineering with focus on Structural Engineering
- Preferred: 10+ years of relevant experience
- Preferred: VDOT and/or DDOT experience
- Preferred: Experience with Design-Build project delivery
- Preferred: Professional Engineer (PE)
