About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop, monitor, and manage the department's operating budget and forecast updates
  • Manage, grow, and support the professional development of the structures engineering department
  • Coordinate department activities, establish priorities, and assign staff to projects
  • Ensure staff development, mentoring, and training needs are met
  • Collaborate with other departments and groups on work-sharing opportunities
  • Support the firm's strategic plan and Sophisticated Sales Approach process for project pursuits
  • Support contracting processes, including scope, work plan, and fee reviews
  • Support project delivery processes, including work planning and monthly project reviews
  • Assist with client discovery, proposals, interviews, and win-to-work activities
  • Maintain client contacts and lead sales and marketing efforts for department growth
  • Recruit, hire, develop, and retain department staff
  • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, and quality activities
  • Perform technical engineering tasks including research, reports, design, specifications, and plan preparation
  • Lead multiple teams through direct and indirect supervision
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • 10 years of practical experience
  • 2 years of supervisory experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification - required
  • Master’s degree in Engineering preferred
  • 12 years practical experience preferred
  • 4 years supervisory experience preferred
  • Ability to lead and supervise at least 15 employees, typically 17–20 or more
  • Willingness to work across Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont
