About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Receive and respond to GDOT locate requests
  • Identify and mark GDOT-owned underground infrastructure
  • Document field activities
  • Support signal maintenance activities as needed
  • Work independently in the field using electronic locating equipment
  • Inspect, observe, document, and verify construction contractor work for compliance with schedules, contract documents, plans, procedures, and material specifications
  • Perform mathematical calculations and measurements of completed work
  • Maintain inspectors' daily reports covering work activities, contractor labor and equipment, and materials received and verified
  • Perform on-site material testing
  • Produce as-constructed sketches as required
  • Install, maintain, and/or repair traffic control devices and related equipment
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent and 6 years of construction related experience
  • All required jurisdictional certificates and state requirements
  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Good organizational skills and ability to work effectively within time constraints
  • Experience reviewing Utility/811 locate requests and responding within required timeframes
  • Ability to use electronic utility-locating equipment to physically locate underground facilities
  • Basic knowledge of standard traffic control procedures/guidelines relating to traffic control device installation and/or repair as set forth in the MUTCD
  • Basic knowledge of traffic control devices and related installation and/or maintenance procedures
  • Ability to accurately locate and recognize pertinent information on basic highway/roadway plans, maps, and electrical diagrams/schematics
  • Basic knowledge of Departmental policies and procedures
  • Familiarity with basic computer applications
  • Ability to receive and respond to verbal communications appropriately
  • Ability to work and communicate professionally and cooperatively with supervisors and co-workers
  • Eye-hand coordination for electrical wiring and physical strength and agility to lift heavy equipment and materials
  • High commitment to work and high standard of ethical conduct
  • Ability to reason and select appropriate processes/guidelines
  • Commitment to quality customer service
  • Ability to install, maintain, and/or repair traffic control devices and related equipment
  • Preferred: at least 4 years of verifiable GDOT CEI or utility locating experience
  • Preferred: experience operating electronic underground utility-locating equipment
  • Preferred: knowledge of underground conduit, fiber optic, communications, and electrical infrastructure
  • Preferred: ability to distinguish utility marking colors and interpret field markings
  • Preferred: experience documenting field investigations and completed utility locates
  • Preferred: working knowledge of standard electrical codes/guidelines and basic electrical wiring
  • Visa sponsorship is not available for this position
