About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Contribute to new product development and legacy design improvement through lifing methodologies for conventional and additively manufactured components
- Conduct fatigue and damage tolerance analyses alongside component designers
- Apply fracture mechanics and probabilistic damage tolerance methods
- Use specialized tools including NASGRO, DARWIN, ANSYS, and FRANC3D
- Complete analyses in accordance with internal, customer, and regulatory requirements
- Provide technical input on material characterization test plans for metallic and non-metallic materials
- Support development and validation of life prediction models for conventionally and additively manufactured parts
- Perform statistical data analysis and plan mechanical testing to support lifing activities
- Communicate technical findings and support project outcomes with component designers and engineering teams
- Report to the Mechanical Design Engineering Manager
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as the sciences, technology, engineering or mathematics
- 3+ years of experience in component lifing, solid mechanics, fracture mechanics, damage tolerance analysis, or related fields, preferably working on aerospace engines or turbomachinery
- Practical experience using Finite Element Analysis
- Knowledge of design principles and material considerations for rotating and structural components in gas turbine engines
- Experience with lifing models for additive manufactured parts
- Experience with FAA FAR 33.70 requirements on damage tolerance
- Experience with ANSYS preferred
- U.S. Person status, defined as a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, protected status in the U.S. under asylum or refugee status, or ability to obtain export authorization
- Currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
- Ability to work on a hybrid schedule in Phoenix, Arizona; new hires must work 100% onsite Monday–Friday for the first 90 days
