About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead comprehensive materials development and qualification projects
- Perform microstructure analysis, mechanical testing, and data modeling to understand material properties and behavior
- Conduct experimental testing under various loading conditions while ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations
- Develop design guidance to optimize component mechanical properties, durability, and reliability
- Investigate material performance issues, identify root causes, and recommend risk-mitigation solutions
- Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and quality assurance teams
- Prepare documentation and reports on characterization studies, test results, and design recommendations
- Present findings to stakeholders
- Improve material characterization methods and techniques
- Mentor junior engineers and team members in material characterization and mechanical design principles
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as the sciences, technology, engineering or mathematics
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in material characterization, preferably in aerospace, automotive, or related industries
- Proficient in material characterization techniques such as mechanical testing, microscopy, and computational modeling tools
- Experience with mechanical testing, including tensile, creep, and fatigue testing, and ability to interpret testing results
- Understanding of common failure modes in metals, including creep, LCF, and HCF
- Knowledge of material manufacturing methods such as castings, forgings, additive manufacturing, or composites manufacturing
- Strong understanding of materials science fundamentals with emphasis in metallurgy, composites, or material processing methods
- Expertise in material behavior under dynamic loading conditions and understanding of fatigue and fracture mechanics
- Familiarity with design control processes, risk assessment, and reliability engineering practices
- Must be a U.S. Person or able to obtain export authorization
- Must be currently authorized to work full-time in the United States
