About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead development of the process control system scope for LNG project bids, productized designs, and awarded equipment projects
- Develop and review P&IDs, control narratives, logic diagrams, alarm philosophies, permissives, interlocks, and operating sequences
- Define control system functional requirements and collaborate with PLC and DCS programming teams to implement control logic and operator interfaces
- Design, evaluate, and implement advanced control strategies for LNG processes
- Analyze process and control system data, troubleshoot dynamic process behavior, tune control loops, and recommend improvements
- Plan and execute functional testing, simulation, Factory Acceptance Testing, and integrated system testing
- Provide onsite startup and commissioning support
- Deliver aftermarket customer training
- Support customers through remote and onsite technical assistance, process data evaluation, control system optimization, and control strategy upgrades
- Collaborate with Process Engineering, Process Systems, Safety Engineering, Startup and Commissioning, and project teams
- Develop and maintain controls engineering standards, specifications, and reusable design methods
- Review customer and project specifications and communicate technical recommendations and risks
- Prepare and maintain process controls documentation, test procedures, commissioning plans, operating guidance, and technical reports
- Identify opportunities to improve control system designs, engineering workflows, standard solutions, and plant performance
- Provide backup I&E engineering support for approximately 10% to 20% of the position
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as science, technology, engineering, or mathematics
- 5+ years of experience as a Process or Process Controls Engineer, ideally within the energy or oil and gas industry; significant applicable experience in plant operations will also be considered
- 5+ years of proficiency in preparing controls narratives and logic diagrams
- 5+ years of proficiency in reviewing and preparing P&IDs
- Experience in function testing and commissioning PLC logic
- Experience in evaluating process data to recommend control strategies
- A valid driver’s license
- Willingness to travel 10–20% to support customer-related activities in the US and internationally
- Ability to act as a liaison with external programming teams and clients, providing technical support and communication
- Familiarity with operating complex process plants, especially LNG or cryogenic plants
- Experience with control design
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Prior knowledge or experience in Controls and/or Systems Engineering
- Working knowledge of I&E design, implementation, module fabrication, or factory acceptance testing sufficient to provide backup support to the team’s dedicated I&E engineering role
