About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design and develop containerized microservices and distributed platform components
- Implement service interfaces, APIs, contracts, and reusable abstractions
- Develop event-driven services using RabbitMQ or similar messaging technologies and asynchronous processing patterns
- Build services interacting with relational databases, time-series data stores, caching technologies, and file/object storage
- Implement service-to-service communication, error handling, retry, and integration patterns
- Troubleshoot distributed services and their dependencies
- Develop software deployable across Azure, GCP, Alibaba Cloud, and Cognition environments
- Contribute to a common platform codebase while separating common functionality from provider-specific implementations
- Apply abstraction and adapter patterns to minimize unnecessary cloud-provider dependencies
- Develop software for Cognition edge/appliance environments, including limited or restricted connectivity deployments
- Optimize platform components for CPU, memory, storage, and network utilization
- Develop and support services deployed in Kubernetes environments
- Contribute to installation, configuration, upgrade, and lifecycle-management capabilities
- Follow engineering and security requirements for regulated, restricted-connectivity, or air-gapped deployments
- Own assigned features, services, and technical problems with limited supervision
- Translate technical designs and requirements into working software
- Participate in architecture and design discussions
- Provide code reviews and maintain engineering standards
- Collaborate with technical leads, architects, Product Owners, SRE, cybersecurity, QA, and application teams
- Identify technical risks, dependencies, maintainability concerns, and integration issues
- Diagnose issues spanning applications, services, messaging, databases, Kubernetes, and infrastructure
- Contribute to technical investigations and proof-of-concepts
- Report directly to the Sr Software Engineering Manager
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5+ years of professional software-development experience with substantial hands-on development responsibility
- Strong experience building production-quality backend, full-stack, or platform software
- Experience developing services using microservice, API-driven, and distributed-system architectures
- Practical experience with containerized applications, automated testing, and CI/CD
- Ability to independently design and deliver moderately complex software components and features
- Experience troubleshooting applications and distributed services in development, integration, or production environments
- U.S. Person requirement: U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, protected status in the U.S. under asylum or refugee status, or ability to obtain export authorization
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience (valued, not required)
- Experience or knowledge of Industrial IoT or connected-device platforms
- Experience or knowledge of edge computing or appliance-based software
- Experience or knowledge of hybrid-cloud or multi-cloud platforms
- Experience or knowledge of air-gapped or restricted-connectivity environments
- Experience or knowledge of large-scale telemetry or event-processing systems
- Experience or knowledge of Kubernetes-based edge deployments
- Experience or knowledge of time-series databases
- Experience or knowledge of device and gateway management
- Experience or knowledge of secure software-development lifecycle practices
