About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Implement and maintain API endpoints, middleware, and platform services in Go
  • Build and evolve the API gateway layer, including routing, authentication, rate limiting, and request/response shaping
  • Write and maintain API contracts using OpenAPI and gRPC definitions
  • Communicate breaking API changes to internal consumers
  • Contribute to service reliability through monitoring, alerting, SLA tracking, and incident response for platform APIs
  • Write clear, reviewable code with tests covering happy paths and failure modes
  • Collaborate with Data Ingestion, Integrations Platform, and Client Platform teams
  • Help build the internal API layer connecting NodeZero services and powering customer and integration interfaces
  • Work on API consolidation, versioning, rate limiting, and observability
  • Report to the API Platform Engineering Manager

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 2+ years of professional software engineering experience building production backend services
  • Proficiency in Go or strong motivation to ramp quickly; Go is the primary language
  • Solid understanding of REST API design principles and HTTP semantics
  • Ability to reason about latency, error rates, retry behavior, and circuit breaking
  • Comfort working in Kubernetes-based environments, including deploying, debugging, and understanding service interactions
  • Experience with containerized development workflows using Docker
  • Familiarity with OAuth 2.0, API keys, and JWT authentication patterns
  • Ability to write clear, reviewable code with meaningful tests
  • Ability to communicate blockers early and ask for help
  • Comfortable working asynchronously across a distributed team
  • Experience with gRPC is a plus
  • Experience with API gateway technologies such as Kong, Envoy, NGINX, or cloud-native equivalents is a plus
  • Exposure to service mesh architectures such as Istio or Linkerd is a plus
  • Background in cybersecurity or experience building APIs consumed by security tools is a plus
  • Experience with gRPC and protobuf-defined service contracts is a plus
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Up to 5% travel may be required
