About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Build and maintain billing systems that scale for millions of customers
  • Own a part of billing end to end, from business need through design, release, and monitoring
  • Integrate with third-party and internal services through APIs, webhooks, and events
  • Maintain integrations when external systems change
  • Collaborate regularly with other teams and support their billing-related questions
  • Review code and influence engineering practices
  • Keep the system up to date
  • Revisit and improve legacy code and processes
  • Ensure correct pricing, including taxes, customer location, and sales logic
  • Maintain reliability in asynchronous systems where events can arrive late or multiple times

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Ability to explain complex problems and trade-offs clearly in writing and conversation
  • Ability to defend technical decisions when challenged
  • Architectural thinking about domains and boundaries
  • Strong PHP with solid command of OOP and design patterns
  • Hands-on experience with REST APIs, SQL, queues, and event-driven systems
  • Experience writing unit and integration tests
  • Experience working on a large production system
  • Ideally, experience being on call
