About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Assist in the examination and treatment of patients under direct supervision
- Assist providers with patient care, examinations, procedures, diagnostic studies, treatments, and dressing changes
- Perform general administrative duties in accordance with CLIA, HIPAA, NCQA, government standards, and company policies
- Schedule patient appointments, ensure medical necessity compliance, and verify eligibility for care
- Obtain and document vital signs, chief complaints, medication reviews, and medical/social histories
- Document care, diagnostic measurements, treatments, and procedures in the electronic medical record
- Follow up with patients regarding recommendations, medications, lab/x-ray results, and specialty visits
- Ensure patient utilization and activation of MyChart
- Prepare treatment rooms and maintain equipment and supplies
- Report patient observations, conditions, and problems to physicians or nurses
- Sterilize instruments and equipment under supervision
- Stock exam rooms and take inventory
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, staff, and the interprofessional care team
- Participate in performance improvement projects and professional development activities
- Take telephone/email messages and forward them to providers or registered nurses
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School diploma or equivalent education (examples include: GED, verification of homeschool equivalency, partial or full completion of post-secondary education, etc.)
- Two years of Medical Assistant experience in a clinic/outpatient setting or one year in the Novice-II position
- BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA) - American Heart Association required
- Certified Medical Assistant through AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, NHA, or Registered Medical Assistant or EMT required
- CPT – Certified Phlebotomy Technician (ACA) preferred
- Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language
- Knowledge of medical practice and care of patients
- Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments
- Skill in developing and maintaining clinical quality assurance and accurate medical records
- Proficient in computer skills for documentation and work-related purposes
- Must complete required continuous training and education and maintain current certifications
- Must be able to travel within the Houston Metropolitan area
- Must wear a uniform and scrubs
