About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform routine, common, and special diagnostic CT examinations of moderate complexity, progressing toward higher-complexity exams
- Provide direct assistance to physicians during diagnostic and special CT procedures, including sterile technique
- Position patients, prepare them for procedures, assess physiology, adjust technical factors, and optimize patient care, image quality, and patient experience
- Explain procedures and provide instructions to patients and family members
- Follow ALARA, radiation safety, infection control, sterile, and aseptic techniques
- Observe and respond to patient reactions to contrast media or medications
- Perform daily imaging equipment quality control and report malfunctions
- Document patient procedures accurately and enter charges when services are delivered
- Report near misses and errors and contribute to corrective actions and quality improvement
- Collaborate with the patient care team and report pertinent patient care information
- Participate in department projects, shared governance, in-service programs, and continuing education
- Manage time, prioritize tasks, and use supplies efficiently
Requirements
What you’ll need- Graduate of an education program approved by the credentialing body for the required credential(s)
- Must have one of the following certifications: ARRT-R, ARRT-N, ARRT-THR, or CNMT
- ARRT-CT certification through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, with PSV within 6 months
- BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor certification from the American Heart Association
- Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English
- Basic computer knowledge, including Hospital/Radiology Information Systems and Office software
- Ability to perform assigned skills safely and pass ongoing competency assessments and performance evaluations
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers
- Ability to manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision
- Ability to work collaboratively with the healthcare team
- Ability to work day shift
- May require emergency on-call availability
- May require travel within and outside the Houston Metropolitan area
