Key responsibilities & impact

  • Conduct nursing assessments and assist with exams and treatment
  • Maintain medical records and audit plans of care
  • Coach and mentor department staff and support professional growth
  • Role-model compassionate communication with physicians and interprofessional healthcare teams
  • Lead unit and shared governance activities and serve as charge nurse as needed
  • Assess unit needs and serve as a clinical resource for unit and hospital staff
  • Coordinate unit and hospital-wide education with management
  • Develop, update and communicate patient care and discharge plans
  • Provide patient and family education and evaluate comprehension
  • Lead quality, safety, practice-change and performance-improvement initiatives
  • Respond to patient deterioration, Rapid Response/CERTs and emergency codes
  • Manage complex patient assignments and unit demands
  • Contribute to patient throughput, resource stewardship and financial targets
  • Participate in unit projects, innovation and evidence-based practice implementation

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing
  • Three years Critical Care Experience
  • One year in specialty preferred
  • RN - Registered Nurse - Texas State Licensure - Texas Board of Nursing / PSV Compact Licensure; must obtain permanent Texas license within 60 days if establishing Texas residency
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support or Instructor (AHA) - American Heart Association
  • BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA) - American Heart Association
  • Magnet-ANCC Recognized Certification (HM) within 6 months
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language
  • Expertise in operating the electronic medical record
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Skills in assessment, organization, problem solving, critical thinking, clinical judgment and time management
  • Ability to function independently and exercise judgment with physicians, care teams, patients and families
  • Ability to work autonomously as defined by the Nurse Practice Act
