About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage day-to-day HR-related legal support for Howmet’s international operations outside the US
- Advise Howmet’s business leaders and human resources team on European employment matters, mainly France, Germany, UK, and Hungary
- Manage outside counsel on non-US employment matters in Europe, Japan, China, and Australia
- Review and facilitate updates to employment policies and procedures with HR partners
- Ensure offer letters, employment agreements, and separation agreements are legally compliant and aligned with business requirements
- Manage outside counsel on litigation matters to protect the company’s interests
- Propose practical commercial solutions to legal and business risks and drive issues to resolution
- Keep the HR team informed about significant employment legislation affecting the company’s business or HR policies in Europe and Asia
- Support legal matters involving recruitment, performance management, dismissal, internal investigations, union and Works Council relations, employee benefits, privacy, and learning and development
Requirements
What you’ll need- Law degree
- Member in good standing of the applicable bar association
- 8+ years of post-qualification experience from an international law firm
- In-house experience is an advantage
- Excellent verbal and written English language skills
- French language skills are a significant advantage
- High level of integrity and discretion
- Appropriate skill and confidence in own abilities
- Risk-based approach to prioritisation and ability to identify options to mitigate risks and add value
- Ability to explain legal issues in a digestible format and communicate concepts to multiple stakeholders at different organisational levels
- Ability to proactively implement processes and procedures across multiple jurisdictions
