About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead and mentor teams developing production-ready AI solutions that improve healthcare delivery, member experiences, and business operations
  • Help define and execute the roadmap for applied AI initiatives aligned with enterprise priorities and business needs
  • Guide evaluation and adoption of machine learning, generative AI, large language models, multimodal models, and intelligent agent technologies
  • Oversee scalable APIs, frameworks, data pipelines, retrieval-augmented generation solutions, and agent orchestration capabilities
  • Partner with product, data science, engineering, architecture, security, and business teams to translate requirements into reliable solutions
  • Establish standards for AI evaluation, observability, performance, security, privacy, maintainability, and operational excellence
  • Promote responsible AI practices and compliance with applicable healthcare, data privacy, and security requirements
  • Stay current with AI technology and recommend practical opportunities supporting Humana’s mission and business goals

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 10 or more years of experience in AI/ML product development, engineering, data science, or related technology work, including leadership responsibility
  • Experience leading the design, development, and delivery of enterprise AI/ML products or platforms
  • Experience delivering generative AI or intelligent agent solutions in a production environment
  • Strong knowledge of machine learning fundamentals, model deployment, evaluation, and MLOps practices
  • Hands-on proficiency with Python and experience using modern machine learning frameworks
  • Experience leading or mentoring engineers, data scientists, or other technical professionals
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and partner effectively across business and technical teams
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Experience applying AI in healthcare or another highly regulated industry
  • Experience with retrieval-augmented generation, agent orchestration, multi-agent systems, or multimodal AI
  • Experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn, Hugging Face Transformers, LangChain, or LlamaIndex
  • Experience building scalable APIs with FastAPI, Flask, or Django
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, cloud platforms, and enterprise data pipelines
  • Advanced degree in a relevant technical or quantitative field
