About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own the design and delivery of the NBA platform’s agentic AI capabilities
  • Design, build, and own AI agent workflows for intelligent analysis, recommendations, and automation
  • Write and ship production code alongside the engineering team
  • Architect multi-step agentic pipelines integrating the platform’s data layer, decisioning outputs, and activation channels
  • Integrate large language models such as Claude and GPT into platform workflows
  • Apply prompt engineering, tool use, structured output handling, and context management
  • Partner with frontend and product teams to deliver AI-powered analysis and recommendations in the Command and Control UI and other operator-facing surfaces
  • Build evaluation frameworks to measure AI output quality
  • Ensure agentic workflows are reliable, auditable, and safe in a regulated healthcare environment
  • Lead a small team of engineers and contractors
  • Set expectations, review contractor work, and maintain quality standards
  • Model AI-assisted development best practices across the engineering organization
  • Participate in occasional travel to Humana offices for training or meetings

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 6+ years of software or ML engineering experience
  • At least 1–2 years focused on LLM integration, agentic AI, or AI product engineering
  • Hands-on experience building production agentic systems, including multi-step pipelines, tool orchestration, structured output handling, and multi-turn conversation management
  • Production experience with RAG patterns and vector search
  • Strong Python engineering skills
  • Experience integrating LLM APIs, including Anthropic, OpenAI, or equivalents, into real applications
  • Proven ability to lead a small team or pod through delivery and manage contractor resources
  • Strong judgment regarding appropriate use of AI in regulated, member-facing contexts
  • Ability to explain agentic architecture to both engineers and product owners
  • Deep fluency with AI productivity tools such as Claude and Copilot
  • Preferred: experience orchestrating multi-agent systems
  • Preferred: experience integrating agentic AI into bespoke enterprise software and external systems such as Salesforce, Adobe Experience Platform, or claims platforms
  • Preferred: experience building AI-powered analytics or insight surfaces in business intelligence or operational UI contexts
  • Preferred: background in healthcare, insurance, or other regulated industries
  • Preferred: experience with AI evaluation frameworks and output-quality/drift detection techniques
  • Preferred: familiarity with the Anthropic Claude API and Claude Agent SDK
  • Typical availability Monday–Friday, 8 hours/day, 5 days/week
  • Minimum home internet speed of 25 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload
  • Dedicated workspace without ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI/HIPAA information
