About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Own uptime, performance, and resilience across NBA platform services
Identify and resolve bottlenecks, failure points, and scaling constraints before incidents occur
Write and ship production code as a significant individual contributor
Build and maintain automated testing infrastructure across unit, integration, and end-to-end layers
Establish testing standards and ensure delivery pods hand off code meeting quality standards
Own logging, alerting, and monitoring systems and maintain production visibility
Design and enforce error-handling patterns across platform services
Evaluate platform components under load and lead scalability improvements
Define and enforce quality gates for safely moving code from delivery to production
Manage quality and reliability engineers and contractor resources within the pod
Coordinate with delivery pod leads to identify quality and reliability concerns early
Work typical business hours, Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day
Occasionally travel to Humana offices for training or meetings

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field
5+ years of experience designing, developing, and testing software applications and/or infrastructure
4+ years of full stack software engineering experience, with at least 1–2 years focused on platform reliability, software quality, or site reliability engineering
Hands-on experience building and owning testing infrastructure, including automated test suites, integration testing, load testing, and end-to-end coverage
Strong understanding of observability practices: structured logging, distributed tracing, metrics, and alerting
Experience designing and enforcing error handling and failure management patterns across distributed systems
Proven ability to lead a small team or pod through delivery and manage contractor resources
Comfortable working across Java, Python, Node.js, and TypeScript
Strong communication skills to articulate quality risk to engineering leads and senior leadership
Passion for contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experiences
Comfort using AI productivity tools such as Claude or Copilot
Experience with Kubernetes-based platforms and container-level reliability and scaling is a strong plus
Familiarity with Kafka and event-driven architectures is a strong plus
Background in healthcare, insurance, or other regulated industries is a strong plus
Experience with chaos engineering or fault injection testing is a strong plus
Familiarity with Azure DevOps pipelines and CI/CD quality gates is a strong plus
