About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Perform software engineering activities across all layers of the stack, from database setup through back-end programming and front-end presentation
Participate in all stages of software development, including front-end, back-end, database integration, network and hosting management, UI/UX, and back-end server management
Work with cloud-based services and end-to-end development
Contribute to technical architecture reviews and design, and present technical vision
Evaluate problems strategically and tactically
Mentor and coach a small team of engineers
Drive technical change and develop innovative solutions
Partner with business stakeholders to define technical direction and work cross-functionally
Deliver business-critical systems and components with high quality
Perform hands-on platform, backend, and frontend development
Review pull requests and provide constructive feedback
Investigate and propose new ideas, frameworks, technologies, and processes
Communicate updates and resolutions to customers and other partners
Report to the Associate Director of Software Engineering
Travel occasionally to Humana offices for training or meetings

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor's Degree
5 or more years of progressive experience as a senior developer in large IT projects
Tech-lead level proficiency in one or more programming languages, including .Net, Java, JavaScript, NodeJS, Python, or TypeScript
Experience with Spring/Spring Boot
Experience with JSON, RESTful web services, and client-server interactions
Experience with highly scalable websites and web services, including Vue.js, Angular, or React
Knowledge of and experience with Azure or an equivalent provider
Experience with environment management/orchestration systems such as Kubernetes, Docker, or AKS
React-Native, mobile app experience, and AI/Agentic AI are a plus
Experience leveraging code generation tools such as Claude and Copilot is a plus
Home or hybrid home/office employees must have internet service with at least 25 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload speeds
Must work from a dedicated space without ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI/HIPAA information
Candidates should reside within 50 miles of Dallas, TX, Chicago Metro, DC Metro, or the Louisville area
