About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Maintain and support services across the full NBA platform and understand how components integrate
  • Monitor platform health and investigate and resolve production issues, bottlenecks, failures, and scaling constraints
  • Design and ship focused features, enhancements, and technical improvements across platform components
  • Extend logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting for production visibility
  • Profile and tune components under load to improve performance and scalability
  • Write tests, participate in code reviews, and uphold engineering standards
  • Participate in the on-call rotation and lead root-cause analysis
  • Convert incidents into durable fixes and preventative improvements
  • Work with delivery pods and Decision Intelligence to understand new components and assume long-term ownership

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience building and operating production systems
  • Ability to read, debug, and extend code in more than one of Java, Node.js/TypeScript, Python, and SQL
  • Understanding of distributed systems, including APIs, event-driven patterns, asynchronous processing, and failure handling
  • Hands-on experience with structured logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting
  • Experience operating services on cloud infrastructure such as Azure, with containers/Kubernetes and CI/CD
  • Maintenance-and-reliability mindset with emphasis on operational health and well-documented code
  • Ability to explain systems or incidents to engineers and non-engineers
  • Preferred: Kafka producer/consumer patterns and stream processing
  • Preferred: Temporal or comparable workflow-orchestration platforms
  • Preferred: Drools or equivalent rules engines
  • Preferred: React/Node/Postgres application stacks
  • Preferred: Databricks, Delta Lake, or Spark-based data pipelines
  • Preferred: Healthcare, insurance, or regulated-industry experience involving PHI handling requirements
  • Remote employees must have internet service with at least 25 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload
  • Ability to work from a dedicated space without ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI/HIPAA information
