About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Design and implement scalable backend services and APIs
Own code through development, deployment, and maintenance
Diagnose and resolve production issues
Challenge business requirements to deliver the best outcomes
Drive adoption of new technologies and contribute to the technology roadmap
Mentor the team
Conduct technical interviews
Provide occasional national or international travel as required (0–15%, depending on project needs)

Requirements

What you’ll need

Solid experience as a Senior Java Developer (Java 17+/21) on complex, production-grade backend systems
Proven hands-on experience running, maintaining and troubleshooting Shopify integrations in production
Strong experience with Spring Boot 3.x, building and maintaining scalable services and APIs
Solid experience designing, developing and maintaining GraphQL APIs
Strong hands-on experience with AWS
Fluent English (written and spoken)
Must be based in Portugal
Experience with AWS DynamoDB and AWS secrets management solutions (e.g., Secrets Manager)
Experience with Apache Kafka or similar event-streaming technologies in asynchronous, event-driven architectures
Experience with OpenTelemetry and observability practices (monitoring and distributed tracing)
Experience mentoring engineers and taking part in technical hiring
