About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Install, configure, and maintain physical and virtual Linux servers running RHEL, Ubuntu, Rocky, or CentOS
  • Manage SSH, DNS, DHCP, NTP, LDAP/SSSD, postfix, NFS/SMB, systemd, and cron services
  • Apply patches and kernel updates; maintain yum/dnf/apt package repositories
  • Monitor system health and performance using Linux utilities or Prometheus/Zabbix
  • Implement backup and restore routines and test recoveries
  • Manage LVM, mdadm RAID, multipath, iSCSI/FC, and ext4/xfs/btrfs filesystems
  • Harden hosts using CIS/STIG baselines, firewall rules, SELinux, and AppArmor
  • Write basic Shell automation/scripts, with optional Python and Ansible playbooks
  • Respond to incidents, perform root cause analysis, and document runbooks and SOPs
  • Support users and development teams with environments, permissions, and troubleshooting

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Solid understanding of Linux OS fundamentals
  • Experience with systemd, networking, storage, and filesystems
  • Package management and log analysis using journalctl and syslog
  • Storage and filesystem management; backup fundamentals
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Nagios
  • Basic virtualization with VMware, KVM, or Nutanix and/or container basics with Docker
  • Basic Shell scripting skills; version control with Git
  • Understanding of security best practices including SSH keys, PAM, and auditd
  • Ability to follow procedures and work under supervision
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 3–5 years administering Linux (Rocky/RHEL/Ubuntu) in production
  • Certifications such as Red Hat RHCSA, CompTIA Linux+, or LPIC-1 are nice-to-have
