About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Manage and monitor litigation files involving the company and its policyholders in property and casualty insurance and civil liability matters, including through the use of the JurisEvolution software
Develop strategies to resolve litigation files favorably and cost-effectively
Represent the company and/or its policyholders before civil and administrative courts and tribunals
Manage one’s schedule effectively with the support and collaboration of a legal assistant
Build trust-based relationships with members of the organization
Work closely with claims adjusters and colleagues in handling more complex insurance claims
Provide legal opinions on insurance law, particularly with respect to underwriting, policy cancellations, property and casualty insurance, and civil liability
Handle access-to-information requests, as required
Conduct statutory examinations when warranted
Advise members of the Operations Vice-Presidency on their needs and challenges
Participate in the company’s continuous improvement initiatives
Share expertise with colleagues and help foster an inspired team
Keep informed of relevant legislative and case-law developments
Continue to develop skills and pursue ongoing learning

Requirements

What you’ll need

Holds a Bachelor of Laws degree and is a member in good standing of the Quebec Bar
Has a minimum of two years of litigation experience in the insurance sector
Demonstrates a strong understanding of property and casualty insurance underwriting principles (a significant asset)
Demonstrates strong initiative, adaptability, and business acumen
Works independently and exercises sound judgment, possesses excellent communication skills, and proposes innovative approaches tailored to the issues encountered
Fluency in French and intermediate proficiency in English
This position involves communicating weekly with internal and external clients located throughout Canada
