About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Act as a senior legal expert and provide a market-aligned strategic vision to the team and partners in privacy and information security
  • Provide strategic legal advice to business areas including mergers and acquisitions, commercial contracts, sales and product development, distribution, technology, human resources, crisis management, and data-driven business strategies
  • Develop a global and forward-looking understanding of the organization’s legal needs and contribute to strategic initiatives
  • Lead and coordinate legal support for incident response, including cybersecurity, fraud, and data protection matters
  • Monitor, analyze, and communicate emerging legislative and regulatory trends
  • Support implementation, review, and updating of policies, standards, guidelines, and programs
  • Harmonize Canadian and U.S. legal approaches with relevant legal counsel
  • Collaborate with Practice Leaders to ensure cross-functional alignment
  • Participate in industry meetings and forums
  • Serve as primary point of contact for key partners
  • Oversee and coordinate projects involving multiple team members
  • Establish and maintain a community of practice
  • Promote best practices across internal teams
  • Coach and develop team members while fostering teamwork and knowledge sharing
  • Ensure compliance with legal processes, standards, and guidelines and contribute to continuous improvement

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Holds a law degree (LL.B.)
  • Member in good standing of a provincial bar
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in privacy, information security, or related fields
  • Strategic thinking and strong business acumen
  • Ability to tackle complex issues
  • Proven ability to influence, mobilize, and build trusted relationships at all levels of the organization
  • Strong industry network
  • Natural leadership and excellent organizational skills
  • Strong autonomy
  • Interpersonal skills, collaboration, and professional rigor
  • Advanced level of English proficiency
  • Ability to interact with and train colleagues, including managers and senior leaders, across offices in Canada and the United States
