About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide advanced product and manufacturing design support to IAC manufacturing facilities, product design teams, and OEMs
- Drive manufacturing feasibility and robust processes into product design from a secondary-tool perspective
- Support RFQ development, quote reviews, sourcing decisions, and technical discussions with IAC management and OEMs
- Optimize manufacturing efficiency and quality through improved processes, materials, methods, and facilities
- Manage tool design, construction, budget, and timing activities for secondary machine and fixture builds
- Provide tooling leadership to project teams and manage supplier build activities to meet timing, cost, and quality objectives
- Lead, develop, and mentor product engineers and technical professionals
- Establish engineering priorities and resource plans aligned with business objectives
- Drive structured technical problem-solving and support talent development, succession planning, and employee engagement
- Direct product engineering across concept development, feasibility, design reviews, validation, launch, and production support
- Ensure designs meet customer specifications, regulatory requirements, manufacturing capabilities, and cost objectives
- Oversee design validation plans, testing, and engineering sign-offs
- Lead engineering change management and product optimization
- Partner with Program Management to deliver engineering work on schedule and within budget
- Identify technical risks and implement mitigation plans
- Support APQP activities, including DFMEA, DVP&R, design reviews, and launch readiness assessments
- Provide engineering leadership during new product launches and major engineering changes
- Serve as primary engineering contact for assigned customers
- Participate in customer design reviews, technical discussions, and program status meetings
- Address customer, warranty, and product quality concerns through root cause analysis and corrective actions
- Support business development with technical expertise for quotations and product development discussions
- Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Operations, Purchasing, Supply Chain, Tooling, Commercial teams, and suppliers
- Support cost reduction, value engineering, continuous improvement, and component development
- Ensure compliance with customer requirements, industry standards, engineering procedures, IATF 16949, ISO, safety, and regulatory requirements
- Participate in customer audits and technical reviews
- Support engineering budget development and resource planning
- Drive productivity and engineering efficiency improvements
- Evaluate emerging technologies and market trends for future product strategies
- Champion preproduction machine run-offs and approval processes for PPAP cycle times and OEE
- Participate in tool and engineering change cost negotiations
- Support pre-production machine start-up at IAC plants during PPAP
- Troubleshoot existing manufacturing processes and product lines to achieve customer quality and profit objectives
Requirements
What you’ll need- Four-year Mechanical Engineering bachelor's degree (preferred)
- 7–10 years’ experience in machine/fixture design, construction/build, and follow-up for interior trim automotive components
- Automotive experience with past programs/interior trim launches
- Ability to resolve issues quickly and recognize and resolve threats to program objectives
- Good negotiating skills, including reviewing and establishing tool costs with suppliers and OEM cost analysts
- Ability to work independently without direct supervision, especially when away from the office
- Ability to work as a member of a launch team and with all levels of the organization
- Individual accountability and responsibility
- Excellent time management and project management skills
- Good written and oral skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other computer skills
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously while managing a team
- Flexibility to work at and travel to IAC plant and supplier locations
- Projects must use proper safety devices and comply with OSHA, NFPA, ANSI, and IAC Standards
