About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design, develop, and implement complex software capabilities for computer-based systems
- Work closely with other engineers to create client-focused software solutions
- Use modern tools and technologies and stay current with software development trends
- Integrate advanced AI coding agents into daily software engineering workflows
- Use autonomous agents for multi-file feature implementations, codebase refactoring, and automated unit/integration test generation
- Guide AI agents through complex, multi-repository application architectures
- Critically audit agent-generated code for security, performance, and architectural alignment
- Work in a fast-paced small-business environment
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Strong working knowledge and experience developing Java-based software capabilities
- Inquisitive nature, responsiveness, and excellent testing skills
- Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work under pressure with multiple deadlines
- Experience with Next-Gen Coding Agents, specifically Claude Code or Google's Antigravity / Gemini agentic workflows
- Experience using autonomous agents for multi-file feature implementations, complex codebase refactoring, and automated unit/integration test generation
- Ability to guide AI agents through complex, multi-repository architectures and audit agent-generated code for security, performance, and architectural alignment
- U.S. citizenship required
- Current U.S. Government security clearance is not required on day 1, but will be processed; current Secret or TS clearance may be considered
- 5+ years of software engineering experience with modern Java frameworks and libraries
- Bachelor's degree in a related field; OR 3 years of relevant experience with a master's degree in a related field; OR high school diploma or equivalent and 9 years of relevant experience
- Experience designing enterprise APIs
- Experience with RESTful web services
- Experience with microservices architecture
- Experience with object-oriented programming paradigms
- Experience with the agile software lifecycle
- Ability to learn quickly and work independently and in a team setting
- Experience with Linux
- Experience with configuration management tools such as Git, Nexus, and Maven
- Ability to work in a hybrid environment, averaging 2–3 days per week at the Columbia, MD office or Ft. Meade onsite
- Flexibility to adapt to schedule changes
- Preferred: current U.S. Government clearance
- Preferred: experience with AWS or Azure
- Preferred: experience with Claude Code or Gemini in daily engineering workflows
- Preferred: experience with distributed databases, NoSQL databases, and full-text search engines such as Elasticsearch, MongoDB, or Solr
- Scripting experience is a plus
- Familiarity with Big Data Platform (BDP)/JCRS-D and Data Lake/Warehouse is a plus
- Understanding of Agile methodologies and standard development tools such as JIRA, Confluence, and GitHub Enterprise
- DoD 8140 / 8570 IAT Level II compliance certifications may be required as directed by the customer
