About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop, implement, monitor, and take primary responsibility for handling a broad range of New York workers compensation insurance claims for NYSEG and RG&E
- Administer Insurance Programs and the renewal process; identify coverage gaps and recommend insurance program modifications
- Coordinate preparation of insurance renewal applications
- Administer workers compensation programs, including processing claims, determining third-party recovery potential, overseeing light duty and return-to-work programs, monitoring salary continuation and disability payments, making reserve recommendations, attending hearings, and reviewing claims
- Process and reconcile retained loss cost invoices and records
- Administer referrals, communications, and information among employees, supervisors, and a workers compensation case management vendor
- Negotiate and settle claims in accordance with company policy
- Work with legal staff and outside counsel on larger claims
- Assist Human Resources with FMLA, ADA, OSHA, and employee claims matters
- Support cost reduction goals through improved methods, procedures, and insurance program changes
- Oversee workers compensation-related software applications, including Stars and SAP
- Maintain OSHA records and loss reports
Requirements
What you’ll need- Associate degree required or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 3+ years of workers compensation-specific and company-specific experience is desired
- Thorough knowledge of State workers compensation regulations, ADA, FMLA, and applicable bargaining unit contract language
- Basic knowledge of financial accounting principles and practices
- Self-motivated, self-directed, organized and capable of managing multiple tasks and operating independently
- Excellent analytical, critical thinking, decision-making and problem-solving skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong customer service orientation
- Ability to communicate with all levels of staff and management and act as intermediary between internal functional areas, case management vendors and workers compensation insurance carriers
- Change management skills
- Team-oriented, skilled in building consensus and a collaborative environment
- Ability to interpret technical and business requirements into a workers compensation claims management solution
- Ability to travel within designated region as needed
