About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage activities among Project Managers, engineers, construction management, and other team members to plan, design, and execute projects
- Ensure projects meet baseline budgets, schedules, scope, quality, and engineering standards
- Manage capital investment goals, Construction Work in Progress, and asset energization in accordance with the investment plan
- Manage team performance to maximize capital budget delivery while considering environmental, operating efficiency, regulatory, CWIP, and operational needs
- Represent the company in regulatory and public forums
- Optimize external contractor and internal business-area work and hold contractors accountable for performance
- Provide technical advice to senior management when required
- Oversee project control and reporting, including scheduling, cost control, and reporting processes
- Manage team performance so goals, schedules, budgets, benefits, and deliverables are met
- Identify portfolio interdependencies and resolve interactions among projects
- Control project scope and mitigate potential change risks
- Ensure quality of team work packages
- Produce regular briefings and status reports for executives or regulatory agencies
- Participate in regulatory or public proceedings and permitting requirements
- Ensure governance processes and procedures are followed within the portfolio
- Train and coach team members, lead team meetings, and hold teams accountable for results
- Monitor progress against plans and apply course corrections
- Ensure effective internal program communications
- Develop procurement strategies for material and labor requirements
- Support compliance, standardization, and process-improvement initiatives
- Promote automation and efficiencies in day-to-day workflows
- Ensure project accountability complies with FERC, NERC, and other applicable regulations
- Attend cost and schedule meetings
- Work with the Coordinator on risk definition, cost, and mitigation-action analysis
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field in the energy industry
- 7 years relevant project management experience, including three years managing complex enterprise initiatives of strategic or regulatory sensitivity
- Ability to mobilize team members to deliver projects on time and under budget
- Expert in risk management and mitigation plans
- Expert in MS Excel for data analysis, budgeting, planning, and optimizing schedules
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Public presentation skills and ability to summarize concepts utilizing Microsoft Project
- Understanding of quality assurance processes and implementation with project structure
- Knowledge and experience managing execution of large high voltage transmission and substation capital programs over 100M, including multi-site projects with upgrades to existing facilities and integration of new facilities
- Knowledge and experience in execution and management of distribution substation projects
- Knowledge and experience in the regulatory environment and filings and approvals required at State, Local, and Federal levels
- Experience with tools and controls needed to monitor and control projects
- Experience managing large teams of technical experts
- Experience/training in enterprise initiatives of strategic or regulatory sensitivity
- Experience in contract negotiations and supplier management
- Proven experience obtaining siting permits
- Project Management Professional Certification
- Experience utilizing SAP financial system preferred
- Experience utilizing Microsoft Project preferred
- Background in electrical or civil engineering preferred
- Proven ability to lead teams and work in a team environment
- Engineering degree preferred
- MBA preferred
