About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Research industry best practices to create Protection and Control standards
- Develop new engineering processes and tools
- Evaluate new P&C technologies
- Write industry white papers
- Assist in developing P&C engineering standards, relay setting file templates, and engineering tools
- Conduct engineering analysis and research industry papers and manuals
- Propose solutions to open-ended challenges with substantial autonomy
- Lead engineering projects
- Facilitate meetings with P&C engineers, other departments, contractors, and vendors
- Author engineering standards and present to technical and non-technical audiences
- Participate in evaluating new vendors and technologies
- Work on special one-off engineering projects
- Support projects involving IEC 61850 Process Bus Substations, Virtualized Protection Relays, relaying laboratories and RTDS, engineering studies, standards updates, internal training courses, and conference papers
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5 years of experience in Electrical Engineering
- 2 years of experience specifically in P&C, substation engineering, substation testing and commissioning, or similar engineering
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
- Intuitive understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals, including sequential components, per unit, harmonics, transformers, and fault analysis
- Master’s degree in electrical engineering preferred
- Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred
- Experience with SEL, GE, and Siemens relays
- Experience or knowledge of IEC 61850, including GOOSE Data Models, Sampled Values, and MMS, preferred
- Experience or knowledge of networking preferred
- Experience or knowledge of real time digital simulators (RTDS) preferred
- Experience or knowledge of virtualized protection relays preferred
- Experience or knowledge of centralized substation protection preferred
