About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design transmission lines from conceptual engineering through final design, including EFM, conductor sizing, induction, impedance, losses, and voltage drop analysis
- Provide senior-level technical expertise and ensure technical accuracy, best practices, and industry-leading design solutions
- Perform conductor economic evaluations, lightning performance studies, grounding calculations, and electrical clearance determinations per NESC and applicable standards
- Interpret and apply NERC, FERC, and regional regulatory requirements
- Prepare and review specifications, data sheets, RFQs, bid evaluations, vendor drawings, and purchase recommendations
- Collaborate with project managers on scopes, schedules, budgets, staffing plans, construction support, and change order management
- Perform and review QA/QC for engineering deliverables, production drawings, CAD outputs, and construction administration activities
- Resolve design-related field issues
- Conduct and lead field inspections, measurements, calculations, and installation reviews
- Develop and present technical reports
- Support marketing and business development efforts
- Build strong relationships with clients and contractors
- Mentor junior engineers
Requirements
What you’ll need- B.S. in Electrical, Civil, Mechanical, or Power Engineering (or related field)
- 5+ years of transmission line engineering experience (design, analysis, modeling, or similar)
- 5+ years of experience working with an electric utility, EPC, or engineering consulting firm
- 5+ years of experience working in PLS-CADD
- Knowledge of NESC, IEEE, ANSI, FERC-881, and FAC-008 standards
- Ability to plan and manage assignments and clearly communicate barriers to complete tasks on budget/schedule
- Ability to work productively from a home office without direct supervision
