About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Join ICF as a Data Scientist Intern for a 10-week Summer 2027 internship
  • Support energy efficiency and load management programs for utilities
  • Maintain and enhance predictive analytics models
  • Apply statistical and computational methodologies
  • Integrate analyses into supporting IT systems to achieve business objectives
  • Analyze large datasets covering customer behavior, energy usage, and marketing performance
  • Identify appropriate analytical techniques
  • Develop and execute code
  • Validate analytical outputs
  • Produce technical reports
  • Collaborate with technologists, business stakeholders, and non-technical client stakeholders

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Completed bachelor’s degree plus enrollment verification or 9 credit hours completed in a Master’s degree program within data science or a similar discipline
  • Must be able to pass required background checks, which may include drug screening
  • All work must be performed in the U.S. per contract requirements
  • Preferred: completed Master’s degree program within data science or a similar discipline
  • Preferred: enrollment verification or 9 credit hours completed in a Doctoral degree program within data science or a similar discipline
  • Preferred: proficiency in R and/or Python, statistical modeling, data manipulation, and visualization
  • Preferred: familiarity with Git, including branching strategies, pull requests, and repository management
  • Preferred: working knowledge of SQL for querying relational databases
  • Preferred: strong understanding of predictive modeling techniques and machine learning algorithms
  • Preferred: familiarity with Docker for building and deploying containerized machine learning environments and applications
  • Preferred: experience with Microsoft Azure services, including Azure Databricks, Azure Batch, and Azure Blob/Table Storage
  • Preferred: familiarity with energy efficiency, utilities, or environmental analytics
  • Preferred: experience working with large-scale datasets and building scalable data solutions
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  • Curiosity and passion for solving complex problems with data
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize and execute tasks under pressure
  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse team and explain technical concepts to non-technical client stakeholders
  • Initiative in learning complex systems and codebases while seeking clarification and guidance
