About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide environmental consulting services including preconstruction field surveys and construction compliance monitoring
  • Conduct avian species identification and nest surveys
  • Support general and focused biological field surveys
  • Assist with writing and reviewing Biological Technical Reports, Biological Assessments, technical memos, FRED database forms, and other supporting documents
  • Provide as-needed field and office support to local and regional Natural Resource team members
  • Coordinate, plan, and execute field assignments for southern and east-central California-based work
  • Conduct general and species-specific biological surveys and construction compliance monitoring according to environmental commitments, laws, regulations, codes, and industry standards
  • Document field findings in monitoring logs, reports, memos, and email communications
  • Communicate routinely with client field contacts, ICF project managers, and senior biologists
  • Travel to remote field sites in counties including Los Angeles, Orange, Kern, San Bernardino, Riverside, Inyo, and San Diego

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • A BA/BS in Wildlife Biology, Botany, Ecology, or related discipline
  • 2+ years of environmental/consulting and biological field experience
  • Prior experience conducting construction field compliance monitoring on 2+ projects
  • 6+ months total field compliance monitoring experience
  • Valid driver's license
  • Successful completion of a Motor Vehicles Records (MVR) check
  • Avian nest monitoring and species identification experience preferred
  • Experience conducting nesting bird field surveys and avian habitat assessments preferred
  • Experience leading western burrowing owl protocol surveys preferred
  • Experience conducting native special status reptile or amphibian species surveys or monitoring preferred
  • Experience leading small mammal field surveys or trapping on California projects, including CDFW scientific collecting permit, preferred
  • Basic field observation documentation/data management experience
  • Environmental compliance and/or construction field experience preferred
  • Basic botanical knowledge of east-central and southern California preferred
  • Participation in 5+ botanical rare plant surveys and habitat mapping assessments in California, including 3+ projects in southern or east-central California, preferred
  • Geographic Information System (GIS) software skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to respond timely to deployment requests, sometimes next day
  • Ability to travel to field sites in east-central and southern California and work in rugged, undeveloped terrain
  • Ability and experience conducting work in active construction sites and communicating with construction foremen and equipment operators
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams)
