About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Establish and uphold department direction and vision
  • Lead the establishment of vision and direction for the actuarial and pricing analytics department with senior leadership
  • Represent the company with external parties, including regulators and industry groups
  • Develop new business processes and comprehensive analytic efforts
  • Ensure work product supports business growth and profitability
  • Modify processes to improve accuracy and efficiency
  • Solve complex problems and identify process dependencies to enable staff direction
  • Ensure actuarial and pricing analytics analyses are sound and consistent with Standards of Practice
  • Advise senior and executive leadership on enterprise-wide actuarial and pricing analytics strategy, risk, and emerging issues
  • Partner with business leaders and administer multiple lines of business or similarly scoped areas
  • Coordinate actuarial efforts to develop and implement new products and expand into new markets
  • Foster collaborative relationships with senior executive leaders
  • Serve as enterprise-level subject matter expert for actuarial and pricing analytics
  • Prepare and communicate actuarial findings to business leaders
  • Develop and manage Credentialed Actuaries, Pricing Analytics Professionals, and Actuarial Analysts
  • Direct team activities and communicate organizational principles
  • Establish service and product delivery standards and support employee engagement, development, recognition, and retention
  • Oversee team performance and development, including performance management, development planning, and coaching
  • Answer team member questions and solve complex problems
  • Manage budget, technology, resources, workload, and customer service requests
  • Ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and compliance responsibilities
  • Promote awareness of regulatory compliance, Actuarial Standards of Practice, and ICW standards for AI systems and modeling data
  • Interview, hire, train, assign, direct, evaluate, reward, discipline, coach, mentor, and develop department employees
  • Forecast staffing needs and plan for peak times and absences

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university required in Applied Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science, Economics or related field
  • Minimum 10 years of related experience, including demonstrated experience managing multiple lines of business or enterprise-wide initiatives; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Associate of the Casualty Actuary Society (ACAS) required
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven leadership ability
  • Thorough knowledge of actuarial and pricing analytics models
  • Knowledge of commercial lines of business
  • Experience managing complex projects, resources and staff
  • Broad company and industry experience and expertise
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other business leaders to solve complex business problems
  • Ability to mentor and train actuarial staff
  • Ability to take actuarial and pricing analytics ownership of multiple lines of business
  • Ability to shape and drive the strategic vision of the actuarial and pricing analytics department and broader enterprise
  • Demonstrated ability to build credibility and influence outcomes with senior executive leadership
  • Advanced degrees in related fields preferred
  • Fellow of the Casualty Actuary Society (FCAS), Certified Specialist in Predictive Analytics (CSPA) or Data Science certifications preferred
