  • Create, manage, and improve operational processes

  • Oversee law office operations for In-House Counsel
  • Contribute to strategic business decisions and company goals
  • Evaluate productivity and service quality to support client satisfaction goals
  • Identify and implement work process improvements
  • Monitor financial and ROI goals, identify trends, prepare reports, and implement modifications
  • Mentor attorneys, law clerks, paralegals, and assistants
  • Handle a reduced caseload of litigated Workers’ Compensation files through resolution
  • Litigate California workers’ compensation cases before state and federal courts, administrative boards, the Court of Appeal, and the California Supreme Court
  • Analyze complex legal and factual issues and develop defense strategies
  • Provide strategic, cost-effective legal advice and action plans
  • Review and distribute information on legislation, regulations, and court decisions
  • Oversee, supervise, evaluate, motivate, and develop Litigation Management professionals and support staff
  • Set performance expectations and support team members in achieving them
  • Establish work cadence and partner with department leadership on performance, outcomes, and customer experience
  • Interview, hire, train, assign, and direct employees; conduct reviews; resolve problems; and plan staffing needs

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university required
  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school required
  • Minimum 8-10 years of workers’ compensation legal experience required
  • 1-2 years supervisory experience of associate attorneys, paralegals, law clerks, hearing representatives, or support staff required
  • Licensed and in good standing with the State Bar of California with no history of public or private reprisals
  • Expert knowledge litigating California workers’ compensation matters with trial experience
  • Deep understanding of workers’ compensation administrative rules, laws, statutes, legal principles and practices
  • Ability to work with Excel, including creating financial and performance reports
  • Proficient use of applications and programs to create automated reports, templates, systems and reliable data retrieval
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to present information to clients, claims personnel, top management, public groups, Board of Directors, mediators, arbitrators, judges, and juries
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently under minimal supervision, maintain a strong work ethic, and exercise initiative
  • Must work at one of the offices of In-House Counsel on a weekly basis
