About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop, operate, and maintain remotely operated mechanical systems and hot cell equipment
  • Develop and produce remotely operated process equipment and systems for hot-cell and glove-box applications
  • Support operation, maintenance, and technical baseline of remotely operated equipment and systems
  • Design and develop processes, handling equipment, systems, and fixturing for remote applications
  • Modify existing equipment for new missions and adapt commercially available equipment for remote applications
  • Install and qualify new Post Irradiation Examination (PIE) and test equipment and instrumentation using mockups
  • Serve as technical interface between nuclear facilities, principal investigators, projects, and programs
  • Support process development, operation, and data analysis of nuclear fuel and material measurements
  • Establish experiment-specific requirements for remote processes and examinations with research personnel
  • Complete design reviews and verification
  • Manage configuration and the Engineering Change process for assigned systems
  • Support procurement, quality-level determination, scheduling, and cost estimating for small projects
  • Collaborate with researchers, technicians, operators, and scientists throughout equipment lifecycle from conceptual design through long-term configuration management

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, nuclear engineering, or a directly related engineering field from an ABET-accredited institution or other related field and 5 years of experience (Level 3)
  • Master's and 2 years of experience, or PhD and 2 years of experience (Level 3 alternatives)
  • Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant engineering field and 9 years of experience (Level 4)
  • Master's and 6 years of experience, or PhD and 4 years of experience (Level 4 alternatives)
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Ability and willingness to obtain and maintain a DOE "L" clearance
  • Experience in development testing, electro-mechanical design, fabrication support, mock-up qualification testing, installation support, and acceptance testing
  • Experience operating in regulated, procedure-driven environments where safety, compliance, and documentation rigor are paramount
  • Advanced proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), including drawing creation, tolerance stack-up analysis, and design for manufacturability
  • Ability to communicate technical information effectively
  • Males born after December 31, 1959 must have registered with the Selective Service System to be eligible for employment
