About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop payments risk strategy and roadmap with the VP of Payments
  • Define risk coverage, controls, monitoring, and success criteria for new capabilities
  • Evolve risk appetite and control frameworks
  • Run day-to-day risk execution, queue management, escalations, and uncovered cases
  • Tune rules and review cases as risk patterns shift
  • Build and maintain incident-readiness playbooks, escalation paths, and decision frameworks
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Finance, and Data on requirements, dashboards, and reporting
  • Track portfolio-level losses and provide risk perspectives for forecasting, business cases, launches, pricing, and partner decisions
  • Champion payments risk across non-specialist teams
  • Design scalable AI and tooling solutions
  • Develop, coach, and build capability within the Risk team

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 8+ years in payments and/or fintech
  • 3+ years leading teams and owning outcomes
  • Deep hands-on command of onboarding, underwriting, processing, settlement, reconciliation, and disputes
  • Strong Stripe fundamentals or comparable infrastructure experience
  • Experience building or running fraud detection, monitoring, and controls
  • Ability to balance loss prevention with customer experience and growth
  • Commercial understanding of how risk decisions affect growth
  • Experience building reporting for leadership decision-making
  • Experience standing up new processes or products
  • Automation-first mindset with AI and tooling
  • High autonomy, sound judgment, and meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate payments and risk complexity to non-specialist teams
