About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop and implement the state legislative program in the General Assembly
- Communicate and implement Illinois Farm Bureau policy and annual legislative priorities
- Communicate IFB policy to legislators and the Governor's administration
- Provide information to IFB members on state legislative issues and coordinate related programs
- Work closely with GAC staff in all phases of the state legislative program
- Prepare legislation to implement IFB policy
- Prepare and present testimony before General Assembly committees on assigned issues
- Review progress of assigned legislation
- Foster positive relationships with legislators regarding organizational positions
- Represent IFB at meetings with relevant state and federal agencies and interest groups
- Communicate with the media as needed
- Prepare detailed analysis of legislation, fact sheets, and recommend IFB positions
- Conduct research and analysis, prepare reports, and provide information and counsel to the IFB Board of Directors, relevant committees and other entities
- Plan and execute state legislative educational programs for county farm bureaus, conferences and IFB meetings
- Support affiliated companies with legislative matters of interest
Requirements
What you’ll need- Typically requires 2-3+ years of relevant legislative experience or a combination of related experience, education and training
- Agriculture, Agriculture Policy or Ag Communications experience a plus
- Normal office environment
- Ability to work flexible hours as needed
- Regularly required to stand or walk
- Must have the ability to travel extensively throughout Illinois to meet with legislators, Farm Bureau members and leaders, attend relevant events and meetings and fulfill job responsibilities
- Illinois Farm Bureau does not generally sponsor individuals for employment-based visas for this position
