About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead design efforts for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems on low to moderate complexity projects
  • Lead design efforts as a project manager or lead engineer and collaborate with senior staff on larger, high-complexity vertical building projects
  • Develop detailed designs, specifications, and calculations using engineering software and tools according to code requirements and IMEG standards
  • Interact with clients to understand project needs, gather requirements, communicate technical information, and build professional relationships
  • Support project execution through planning, budgeting, and scheduling
  • Document design decisions and client instructions
  • Monitor project progress, percent complete, and fee expended
  • Analyze engineering problems and collaborate with senior engineers and consultants on practical solutions
  • Provide in-process design reviews of system designs, calculations, and specifications
  • Implement IMEG quality control processes
  • Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and mechanical engineering best practices
  • Contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts
  • Prioritize safety and identify and mitigate potential mechanical-system risks
  • Collaborate with engineers, architects, and project managers to deliver integrated solutions
  • Identify potential project problems and seek advice from the Project Manager
  • Support projects through bidding and construction administration
  • Support commissioning, energy performance, and strategic growth services

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent, required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License required
  • 5 years of experience minimum required in the building design consulting industry; 6 preferred
  • Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts used to produce technical plans and specifications
  • Strong technical and analytical skills, including thermodynamics, psychrometrics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics applied to HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection system design
  • Proficiency with HVAC load calculation programs such as Trane Trace, Carrier HAP, IES, or similar
  • Proficiency with energy compliance software, including ComCheck
  • Proficient use of NFPA Link, TechStreet, and/or MadCAD
  • Proficiency in BIM software, including Revit-based tools
  • Experience with Master Specification editing software (eSPECS), CTC Revit Add-In Tools, and SET Tools
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to train and mentor less experienced staff
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Eagerness and adaptability to take on new challenges
  • Ability to travel up to 15%, including occasional overnight stays
