About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead design efforts for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems, including detailed designs, specifications, and code-compliant calculations
  • Partner with clients to understand needs, gather requirements, communicate technical information, and build professional relationships
  • Support consulting project execution as part of a project team
  • Lead project planning, budgeting, and scheduling to meet deadlines and objectives

  • Analyze engineering problems and develop practical, efficient solutions with senior engineers and consultants
  • Provide in-process reviews of designs, calculations, and specifications
  • Implement IMEG quality control processes
  • Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and mechanical engineering best practices
  • Contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts
  • Prioritize safety and identify and mitigate mechanical-system safety risks
  • Collaborate with engineers, architects, and project managers to deliver integrated solutions
  • Identify potential project problems and seek advice from the Project Manager
  • Oversee projects through bidding and construction administration
  • Deliver mechanical design solutions supporting clients, communities, and the built environment

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License required
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in the building design consulting industry; 4 years preferred
  • Experience may vary based on state license qualifications
  • Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in producing technical plans and specifications
  • Strong technical and analytical skills
  • Proficiency in thermodynamics, psychrometrics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics relating to HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection design
  • Ability to train and mentor less experienced staff
  • Proficiency with industry-standard engineering software and tools, including HVAC load calculation software
  • Proficiency in Building Information Modeling (BIM) software
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to communicate clearly in oral and written communication
  • Ability to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays
