About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead analysis and design of structural systems for buildings and other structures using various building materials
- Create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations using engineering software and tools according to code requirements and IMEG standards
- Interact with clients to understand needs, gather requirements, communicate technical information, and build professional relationships
- Support consulting project execution as part of a project team
- Lead project planning, budgeting, and scheduling
- Document design decisions and client instructions
- Monitor design progress against percent complete and fee expended
- Analyze engineering problems and propose innovative solutions
- Collaborate with senior engineers, consultants, architects, project managers, and multidisciplinary teams
- Provide in-process design reviews of structural systems, calculations, and specifications
- Implement IMEG quality control processes
- Identify potential project problems and seek advice from the Project Manager
- Oversee projects through bidding, design, and construction administration phases
- Train, mentor, and collaborate with cross-functional teams
- Prioritize safety and conduct work ethically and professionally
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering, or equivalent, required
- Professional Engineer (PE) License required
- Minimum 2 years of experience in the building design consulting industry; 4 years preferred
- Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in producing technical plans and specifications
- Strong technical and analytical skills, including mechanics and materials, load paths, and structural design standards for steel, concrete, wood, and masonry
- Ability to train and mentor less experienced staff
- Proficiency with industry-standard engineering software and structural engineering design and analysis software
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Eagerness to adapt to new challenges
- Proficiency in Building Information Model software
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Ability to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays
- Master’s Degree (MS) in Structural Engineering preferred
