About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design and develop mechanical systems for the IMRIS product line
- Research, design, evaluate and document medical products and equipment
- Lead mechanical design activities from initial design through final production
- Provide technical team leadership and manage small technical projects
- Develop recommendations for new and existing medical device products
- Create 3D models, sketches, designs, layouts, drawings, simulations, schematics and technical analyses
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to establish robust, manufacturable product designs
- Maintain records of inventive ideas, designs and improvements
- Estimate costs and time requirements for designs and design activities
- Participate in cross-functional product risk analysis
- Specify system components and direct product modifications
- Participate in design transfer to external vendors and IMRIS manufacturing, service and installation teams
- Document product issues for problem resolution
- Verify conformity to product specifications, design standards and external requirements
- Lead product lifecycle design changes through engineering change order documentation
- Lead engineering prototype builds and assist with verification and validation activities
- Lead multidisciplinary teams and influence design direction as Project or Technical Leader
- Serve as a subject matter expert on IMRIS product lines
- Transition system requirements to mechanical subsystem requirements in complex designs
- Report to the Director of Engineering
Requirements
What you’ll need- BS in Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum of 6 years industry experience in mechanical product design
- Technical leader experience of cross-functional product design leading 2-5 people
- Ability to lead root cause analysis on product deficiency issues
- Ability to lead FMEA on mechanical systems
- Demonstrated machine design capabilities
- Robust knowledge of machine component manufacturing processes including mill, lathe and sheet metal forming
- Knowledge of tolerance analysis and ability to apply it appropriately to IMRIS products
- Demonstrated capability implementing GD&T drawing documentation
- Expert at engineering design using 3D modeling
- Experience performing FEA structural analysis
- SolidWorks 3D CAD experience preferred
- Knowledge of FDA QSR, ISO 13485 and IEC 60601 preferred
- Knowledge of SolidWorks surfacing preferred
- Experience designing heavy or industrial equipment
- No relocation offered; ideal candidate currently resides in the Greater Twin Cities metropolitan area
