About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Regularly review water quality standards across the area to support excellent water quality from treatment works
  • Conduct proactive onsite interventions when early warning process performance deteriorations occur
  • Interrogate data to identify process performance deteriorations
  • Identify and investigate water quality risks from source to tap, including abstraction management, and ensure appropriate mitigation
  • Deliver and continually improve water quality risk assessments
  • Undertake comprehensive onsite water quality investigations following proactive or preventative triggers
  • Prepare water quality action plans as required
  • Deliver the company’s Drinking Water Safety Planning approach
  • Act as the key point of contact for local operations teams for water quality risk assessment
  • Lead development of short- and medium-term strategies to reduce risks to water quality
  • Participate in an out of hours standby process support for the business across the region
  • Provide scientific advice on Regulation 31
  • Work alongside Operational colleagues to provide scientific understanding, challenge processes, and safely produce wholesome water
  • Use scientific understanding during reactive events to navigate incidents safely and successfully

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Educated to degree or postgraduate level in a relevant scientific subject or equivalent qualification or experience
  • Able to critically evaluate information to take tactical action
  • Excellent data interpretation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to build rapport with operational colleagues
  • Able to influence those around you in making positive decisions to protect wholesomeness of our water
  • Ability to participate in an out of hours standby process support for the business across the region
