About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead the sovereign research team
- Own the economics forecasting and research framework
- Chair economics and research meetings
- Own and improve macro data architecture for investment teams, including chart packs, dashboards, models and databases
- Lead ongoing development of the research process
- Identify key themes and market drivers for research
- Conduct in-depth country analysis for a key region
- Produce research and analysis on short- and long-term macro themes and market drivers
- Provide thought leadership influencing risk-taking in active fixed income portfolios and generating alpha
- Work with portfolio managers across active investment teams
- Support internal business projects requiring sovereign research input
- Develop junior members of macro-focused teams
- Support client and prospective client enquiries with macroeconomic analysis and commentary
- Support in-person client presentations where needed
- Write external thought leadership, research pieces and market commentary
- Report to the Head of Global Rates and Head of Currency
- Manage direct line reports in the sovereign research team and collaborate across global rates, currency, emerging market, active credit and multi-asset teams
Requirements
What you’ll need- Extensive experience (minimum 10 years) in sovereign or macroeconomic research
- Strong economic/econometrics background and extensive experience with in-depth country analysis
- Strength in data architecture and technical skills
- Ability and willingness to play a thought leadership role and work closely with risk takers in portfolio management teams
- Quantitative skills helpful; ability to interpret and question models and perform analyses in Python, Excel, Macrobond and Bloomberg
- Detail oriented whilst working under pressure and to tight deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to represent strategies to clients and internal stakeholders
- Experience managing people ideal but not essential
- Preference for a master’s degree (or higher) in Economics (optional, not required)
