About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Conduct rigorous policy and systems research in JETP contexts
  • Map actors and review documentation in Senegal’s just energy transition context
  • Support stakeholder engagement and dissemination around South Africa or Indonesia research
  • Contribute to comparative analysis across South Africa, Indonesia, and Senegal
  • Support COP31/32, national dialogues, and related convening activities
  • Design or facilitate convenings, dialogues, and other engagement formats
  • Develop clear written outputs for funder, policy, and public audiences
  • Provide research, strategy, or engagement support as specific consultancy engagements arise
  • Work with IHRB’s Head of Climate & Just Transitions Programme
  • Deliver time-bound consultancy engagements through 30 April 2027

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Genuine depth in the energy systems, transition governance, and political economy landscapes of Senegal, Indonesia, and/or South Africa
  • Strong understanding of business and human rights and responsible business frameworks and incentives/disincentives
  • Strong understanding of distributive justice approaches to energy transitions
  • Strong analytical and writing skills, translating complex material into clear outputs for funder, policy, and public audiences
  • Relevant language fluency for the context in question, particularly Bahasa Indonesia and French
  • Strong written English
  • Ability to work independently within a small, globally distributed team
  • Ability to deliver reliably against fixed, often compressed, timelines
  • Demonstrable track record of independent research
  • Experience engaging stakeholders across business, finance, government, and civil society
  • Experience developing knowledge products in a comparable policy space
  • Candidates outside South Africa, Indonesia, or Senegal must bring strong relevant career experience, networks, and language fundamentals from one or more of those countries
  • Submission of a short note of fewer than 500 words, CV, and preferred day rate to express interest
