About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Teach 6 studio classes per academic year (3 Fall, 3 Spring), ranging from introductory First Year Experience to graduate coursework
  • Teach undergraduate Film & Video and college-wide related courses
  • Work collaboratively with program faculty, Department Chairs, and Film Centre staff to meet student academic needs
  • Mentor and advise students, fostering creative and professional development
  • Participate in departmental service, committee membership, program development, assessment, strategic planning, admissions, student programs, and college-wide initiatives promoting shared governance
  • Maintain an active professional practice and/or research agenda that informs teaching and contributes to the field

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • A terminal degree (MFA, PhD) in Film, Media Production, Video Art or related field (or equivalent professional experience)
  • 3 years or more of experience teaching at the college level with a passion for education
  • Record of professional creative accomplishment in filmmaking showing technical and conceptual expertise, with recognition through film festivals, distribution, screenings/exhibitions or other avenues
  • Proficiency with relevant digital industry-standard production software including the Adobe Creative Suite
  • Command of digital equipment including cameras, sound stage control panels, and editing suite hardware
  • Strong communication, demonstration, and facilitation skills
  • Expertise in either narrative fiction, documentary or experimental film
  • Demonstrated knowledge of film theory and history
  • Strong desire to integrate new technologies and equipment into practice and education
  • Expertise with core film and video industry production frameworks (pre through post production)
  • Satisfactory background check
  • Preferred: Experience in virtual production and real-time environments
  • Preferred: Experience in visual effects and computational/AI-enabled creative tools
  • Preferred: Proficiency with 16mm film cameras and film editing
  • Preferred: Experience with evolving distribution and audience platforms
