About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Advance gigawatt-scale wind, solar PV, BESS, gas, and data center projects from early-stage development into construction
  • Support environmental and land use strategy, critical permits, and navigation of complex regulatory landscapes across the U.S.
  • Coordinate land access for biological, cultural, and other resource surveys
  • Coordinate internal colleagues in preparing permit applications, environmental documents, and permitting execution strategy
  • Manage external consultants conducting resource surveys and preparing environmental permitting and financing diligence documents
  • Manage project permitting schedules, budgets, and documentation
  • Research and summarize project-specific permitting requirements and track regulatory changes
  • Review zoning, floodplain, biological resources, wetlands, cultural resources, permitting fees, entitlement processes, and community attributes to identify project risks
  • Attend field site visits for site assessment, community engagement, agency coordination, and construction compliance
  • Attend land use planning, zoning, and industry association meetings; document and summarize takeaways
  • Assist with public meetings and project hearings
  • Prepare presentations and participate in meetings with agencies, elected officials, communities, environmental NGOs, and Native American tribes
  • Support preparation, submission, and agency approval of discretionary permit and entitlement applications
  • Prepare permit compliance documentation for regulatory agencies and external stakeholders
  • Develop internal presentation, communication, and approval materials for executives and stakeholders
  • Review permit requirements, maintain compliance matrices, and complete permitting exhibits for project contracts
  • Support Environmental and Permitting team members, including the Head of Environmental & Permitting
  • Collaborate with development, engineering, GIS, community engagement, real estate, legal, construction, and M&A teams

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Urban or Regional Planning, Natural Resources, Environmental Policy, Political Science, Geography, Geology, Hydrology, Economics, or a related field
  • 2+ years of professional experience in environmental permitting, regulatory compliance, or development of power, energy, transmission, or other large-scale infrastructure projects
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail and quality of work product
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills
  • Adaptability to change and ability to think outside the box
  • Ability to perform self-directed work and ask questions when needed
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and execute in a timely and accurate manner
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic, and cross-disciplinary environment
  • Ability to summarize complex issues and identify opportunities or next steps with limited guidance
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new software platforms and tools, including critical review and QA/QC of generative AI analyses and summaries
  • Ability and willingness to travel within the United States at least once per quarter, with additional project-site travel likely
  • Proactive, collaborative work style
  • Commitment to environmental stewardship and authentic stakeholder engagement
  • Master’s degree or MBA is a plus
  • Familiarity with land/environmental policy/law is a plus
  • Familiarity with Google Earth and ArcGIS is a plus
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS Enterprise, Google Suite, and Slack is a plus
