About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Lead, coach, and develop software engineers and technical staff across experience levels
Set expectations, provide feedback, conduct performance reviews, support career growth, and build an engaged, accountable team
Identify and develop future technical leads and managers
Recruit, interview, hire, and onboard team members
Partner with QA and BA Managers to lead five onshore and offshore scrum teams
Coordinate work and dependencies across time zones and support offshore developers
Define and communicate a technical roadmap for business process applications
Guide architecture and technical design of Java enterprise applications and business process platforms
Translate complex requirements into maintainable solutions and implementation plans
Drive technical decisions through collaboration and consensus-building
Maintain visibility into in-flight work and technical decisions; document architecture and decisions
Provide senior leadership with status, risks, and recommendations
Own delivery outcomes from design through production
Lead production incident response and keep stakeholders informed through resolution
Partner with business and product stakeholders on scope, priorities, milestones, and outcomes
Plan work and allocate people and resources across onshore and offshore teams
Promote engineering practices for code quality, testing, relational data design, SQL performance, data integrity, and security
Partner with DevOps, Quality, Infrastructure, and Operations on build and release, environments, monitoring, production readiness, and continuous improvement
Identify and reduce delivery, security, regulatory, and operational risks
Define and lead AI-assisted development practices with human-in-the-loop review and quality standards
Build technical cohesion through design reviews, shared standards, cross-team learning, and collaboration
Represent the development team with senior leaders, customers, vendors, and internal partners
Contribute to resource and budget planning and identify opportunities to use tools and people effectively

Requirements

What you’ll need

Experience with artificial intelligence (AI) tools to optimize workflows, problem-solving, and productivity
Bachelor’s degree and at least 10 years of relevant software development experience, including at least 5 years managing software development teams
Experience leading, coaching, and developing software professionals
Experience leading distributed or offshore development teams, including coordinating work across time zones and vendor partners
Strong experience with enterprise software development
Java and complex workflow, rules-driven, or transaction-processing systems are highly relevant
Knowledge of relational database design, SQL, data integrity, and performance optimization
Track record of setting technical direction and roadmaps and driving technical decisions collaboratively
Track record of owning delivery end to end, including production incident response and senior stakeholder communication
Ability to communicate complex technical and strategic topics clearly and concisely
Ability to make data-informed decisions and build partnerships across technical and non-technical teams
Ability to operate independently
Experience balancing innovation with business value, operational stability, security, compliance, and delivery risk
Experience defining or leading AI-assisted development practices, including human review and quality controls
Familiarity with enterprise AI integration patterns and appropriate security and evaluation practices is an advantage
Experience in financial services, banking, or another regulated industry is preferred
Experience with AWS-hosted applications and CI/CD practices is preferred
Oracle experience is preferred
