About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Conduct 1:1s with all developers, provide feedback, and support each person’s growth
- Own the team’s delivery, aligning weekly with Product Managers and ensuring agreed deliverables are completed
- Manage the full performance process, including improvement plans and terminations when necessary
- Ensure pull requests are reviewed quickly and to a high standard
- Lead the team’s use of AI by defining specifications, delegating work to agents, testing, and reviewing results
- Keep existing projects running smoothly while new products move forward
- Participate in hiring and oversee onboarding for new developers
- Spend approximately 30% of your time coding, reviewing pull requests, and programming as needed
- Report to the CEO on a weekly basis
Requirements
What you’ll need- Experience leading development teams, with a track record of helping people grow
- Strong previous experience as a software developer and a desire to continue coding
- Maturity to make difficult people-related decisions
- Daily use of AI in software development, with a personal process for making results reliable
- Specification first, agents executing, followed by testing and final review
- Hands-on experience with Claude Code, Codex, or equivalent tools
- Clear communication with Product, Marketing, and leadership
- Product mindset and results-oriented approach
- Experience with subscription products, SaaS, or high-volume B2C products is a plus
- Experience with dating apps, startups, or fast-paced environments is a plus
- Experience implementing AI in the development workflow of an entire team is a plus
