About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own and lead all Security Engineering activities at Jellyfish
  • Define and drive the strategic security roadmap aligned with executive business objectives
  • Design and mandate scalable, resilient security architectures across infrastructure, platform, and product ecosystems
  • Define, implement, and govern the company-wide Secure Development Lifecycle (SDLC)
  • Establish secure SDLC practices for internal AI tools and customer-facing AI features
  • Lead AI and machine-learning threat modeling and continuous risk assessments
  • Mitigate risks including prompt injection, data poisoning, and sensitive data leakage
  • Develop automated remedial workflows, vulnerability management, and software composition analysis solutions
  • Mentor engineers and advise executive leadership on security posture
  • Cultivate a company-wide culture of security and inclusion
  • Direct responses to critical security incidents
  • Oversee threat modeling and set strategy for penetration testing and bug bounty programs
  • Build security features and write high-quality code
  • Partner with engineering and data science teams
  • Occasionally travel as required

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Extensive, proven track record owning, building, and scaling application security programs in a SaaS or fast-paced startup environment
  • Deep technical expertise in software engineering, including Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Rust, or C/C++
  • Architectural-level understanding of reliability, safety, and security
  • Deep understanding of security challenges involving Artificial Intelligence and Large Language Models (LLMs)
  • Practical experience securing internal AI infrastructure and customer-facing AI applications
  • Ability to balance AI product innovation with security, compliance, and data privacy standards
  • Demonstrated ability to drive cross-functional consensus and influence engineering leadership
  • Experience executing large-scale performance, testing, and security initiatives
  • Strong business acumen
  • Recognized computer security expertise and experience sharing knowledge through technical talks and engineering-wide education
  • Ability to work autonomously with a distributed team
  • Eligible to work in the U.S. for any employer
  • Located in EST or CST time zone (preferred)
  • Expert-level skills with Python, Django, Postgres, AWS, Terraform, Circle CI/GitLab/GitHub Actions, Semgrep, or LLVM (bonus)
  • Open-source security, standardization, or industry working-group contributions (bonus)
  • Experience transforming collaboration between security and engineering teams (bonus)
  • Previous security leadership at a high-growth startup (bonus)
  • Must be authorized to work for any employer in the US; visa sponsorship is unavailable
