About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead Maltese corporate and personal tax matters, including tax opinions and advice on transactions, restructurings, and private client structures
  • Advise on Maltese tax treatment of cross-border transactions and international structures
  • Work with foreign advisers and specialists where needed
  • Oversee the Tax Compliance Team, including workload planning, deadlines, technical guidance, and review of complex files
  • Manage key client relationships, technical queries, escalated matters, and additional service opportunities
  • Liaise with the Malta Tax and Customs Administration on technical correspondence, assessments, refunds, and other client matters
  • Oversee tax compliance for trusts, foundations, and similar structures, including CRS and FATCA work
  • Support business development through prospect meetings, fee proposals, referral relationships, and cross-referrals
  • Work with senior management on budgets, pricing, profitability, hiring needs, revenue, pipeline, and utilisation
  • Mentor the team, improve departmental processes, and keep clients informed of relevant tax developments

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • ACCA, ACA, or equivalent accountancy qualification, or a warranted lawyer with tax experience
  • 5+ years of relevant tax experience within a CSP, accountancy practice, or similar environment
  • Experience including team supervision and review
  • Strong knowledge of Maltese corporate taxation
  • Practical experience in tax advisory and compliance
  • Ability to manage clients and assignments independently
  • Ability to lead, delegate, review work, and develop team members
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to plan workloads, allocate resources, and manage deadlines
  • Commercial awareness and proactive approach to business development
  • Excellent communication skills in English
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, professionalism, and discretion with confidential information
  • Exposure to cross-border tax, knowledge of trust and foundation taxation and CRS and FATCA, or a specialist tax qualification such as the MIT Diploma or ADIT is a plus
  • Candidates must already be based in Malta
